About the event

Through this class, participants will learn how to create an ikebana arrangement with a focus on water while using two or more glass containers. First, pick glass containers while keeping in mind the theme of water.  Various combinations can be used such as, but not limited to, using containers of the same shape, different shapes, and/or utilizing different glass textures. Think about placement of the containers such as putting them side by side, placing one in front of the other, or nesting a smaller one inside a larger one.  Take into consideration the unique extension of space and the originality of the overall appearance of using two containers.  The arrangement can be composed inside or outside the container or extended to both sides.

Glass containers are very effective for this lesson and can be transparent, translucent, patterned, and colored.  Make sure the water is visible, and that you can clearly see through the container.  As you arrange, pay attention to how the materials look inside the glass; branches, stems, flowers, and specifically water need to show beautifully through the glass.

A focus on water is the main component of this arrangement.  Oftentimes, attention is placed on the relationship between the container and the materials, but this time, water is added as another means of expression.  Consider how the container and the materials should be composed, in what position water should be shown, how the water should contribute to the composition, emphasizing the water surface, and so on. Overall, the different appearance of the plants with an emphasize on water offers a new and exciting experience.
