About the event
Through this class, participants will experience and focus on creating an arrangement composed of one kind of material. Isshuike is a fundamental style in traditional Japanese Ikebana, and focusses on expressing the unique, natural beauty and life force of a single type of plant material. Different varieties or colors of the same name material cannot be used together for the arrangement; but instead, the arranger must creatively challenge themselves to use one specific flower, branch, leaf, etc... This challenge can easily express the sense of unity but can also become dull, unless creative thought is placed on how to use the material in uniquely varied ways. Study the plant and find all the different ways that you can use it; taking the time to get to know the materials will help give your ideas new life within the composition. The main principle of design is unity and variety; concentrate on this principle as you collaborate with the chosen materials.
• Class will be held at Yanagi Botanic Arts Studio located inside Yobel/ The Look Up Gallery building.
