About the event

Through this class, participants will learn how to create an arrangement by developing its composition from a verb that expresses movement.  There are so many verbs that can indicate a movement such as but not limited to: rise, climb, expand, roll, open, grow, jump, swell, bounce, overflow, flow, etc…… Choose any verb and make an arrangement where it can be felt and thoughtfully expressed by the arranger.

First, look at the plant materials and study their potential.  Ask yourself, What kind of action can these plants express?  How can I create an action with these plants?  Choose a suitable container to assist you with your expression.  Then, decide on your verb and try several different approaches until the arrangement feels right.  Make sure you are using techniques, tips, tricks, and ingenuity to express a movement.

To make a verbal idea visible in ikebana is a very conceptual and slightly challenging task.  One must think creatively and outside the box to achieve unique results.  However, taking up this challenge is the quintessence of satisfaction in ikebana.  When you are finished, ask yourself and others if you successfully communicated a verb that expresses movement.  Ask if there are any other verbs that might work as well.
